            SCHOLARSHIP ANNOUNCEMENT

 

The Coronado Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) is pleased to announce the 2009-2010 Scholarship Program

 

One $1,000 Scholarship will be awarded during the 2009-2010 school year to a graduating senior who is enrolled in the

 JROTC Program at Buena High School.  The Scholarship is in memory of one of our respected and distinguished military officers.

                       

The Lieutenant Colonel Hans Wege Memorial Scholarship

 

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:

  1. The applicant must be a 2009 Graduating Senior from Buena High School.
  2. The applicant must be enrolled and satisfactorily participating in the Buena High School JROTC Program.
  3. The applicant must have an overall academic Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
  4. The applicant must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale, in JROTC.
  5. The applicant must enroll in a community college, a college, a university, or service academy.

 

CRITERIA FOR SELECTION:

  1. Scholastic Standing in high school.
  2. Involvement and leadership in JROTC.
  3. Involvement and leadership in school and/or community activities.
  4. Timely submission of a properly completed application.
    1. Applications must be received no later than 15 March 2010.
    2. Applications must be personally given to the POC, or mailed to: Coronado Chapter, MOAA, ATTN:

Scholarship Chairman, PO Box 1685, Sierra Vista, AZ 85636.

  1. Favorable endorsement by the Senior Army Instructor, Buena High School JROTC Program.

This application applies only to seniors enrolled in the JROTC program at Buena High School.

INSTRUCTIONS:  The following items are required to be submitted with this application. 

  1. Attach a brief summary/resume (not more than one page).
    1. Describe your involvement in JROTC activities.
    2. Indicate your involvement is school and community activities.
    3. List your significant accomplishments.
    4. Indicate our interest, if any, in a military career.
    5. An explanation of your future plans and goals.
  2. A copy of your high school transcript showing class rank and GPA.
  3. A letter of recommendation by the Senior Army Instructor, Buena High School JROTC Program.
  4. At least one letter of recommendation from a teacher or counselor.

 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

  1. Applications must be received no later that 15 March 2010  (this is absolutely a firm suspense date).  Applications must be personally given to the POC, or mailed to: Coronado Chapter MOAA, ATTN: Scholarship Chairman, PO Box 1685, Sierra Vista, AZ 85636.
  2. If you are selected as a finalist, you will be expected to appear for an interview by the Scholarship Selection Committee, during the end of March or beginning of April 2010 (specific date to be announced).  You will be required to appear in uniform with all medals, ribbons and other awards.
  3. Application must be submitted through the Senior JROTC Instructor and forwarded to the MOAA POC not later than the suspense date. Only correctly completed applications and those meeting the criteria specified in the MOAA Scholarship Announcement will be considered.
  4. Final awards will be presented at the MOAA dinner on 15 April 2010.  Scholarship recipients and their parents will be invited to attend the MOAA dinner, as guests of the Coronado Chapter, MOAA.
