MOAA's Coronado Chapter 2010 Scholarship Program
The Coronado Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA)
announces the 2010 Scholarship Program, which offers seven scholarships to seniors in the class of
2010. The grants are for $1,000 each and can be used at a
community college, a 4-year university, or a service academy.
The grants are merit based and awarded in two
categories. The first category is open to seniors who attend
school in Benson, Bisbee, Bowie, Douglas, Patagonia, San Simon, Sierra Vista, St. David, Tombstone, Valley
Union, or Willcox.
To be eligible the students’ parents,
grandparents, or legal guardians must be active duty, an active reservist in a drill status, in the National
Guard or retired from the uniform services. Completed Scholarship applications must be received by the
Coronado Chapter Scholarship Chairman, no later that March 15, 2010.
The second category consists of one grant to a
senior enrolled in the JROTC program at Buena High School in Sierra Vista. This grant is made possible by an endowment form Mrs. Helen Wege, in
memory of he husband, Lieutenant Colonel Hans Wege, U.S. Army.
Col. Wege served in World War II as an Intelligence Officer on General George Patton’s staff. He also served in the Korean War and at numerous locations overseas and in
the United States. He retired in 1960 while stationed at Fort
Huachuca and died on March 28, 2002.
The scholarship awardees will be announced in the mid-April 2010
timeframe.
